Pubs can be owned by breweries again.
Many pubs are still owned by breweries.
Result: Lies
This was raised in discussion over the number of pub closures.
Of the 47,000 pubs in the UK, roughly 20,000 are owned by Regional Breweries and Pub Companies; 9,000 by Multiple Licensed Retailing Companies; and 18,000 are privately owned Freehold and Leasehold Pubs (source).
Pubs owned by breweries (known as a Tied House), may have problems stocking beers their customers want. But changes in UK law during 2015/2016 can help tenants break ties with breweries that own more than 500 properties (more info).
In terms of EU legislation, directives 79/581/EEC and 88/315/EEC state that prices must be unambiguous, easily identifiable and clearly legible. But "this directive does not apply to foodstuffs sold in hotels, restaurants, cafés, public houses, hospitals, canteens and similar establishments".
Then there is the classic lie from 1995 about the EU banning the sale of pints, on the basis that we should be using the "metric system".
I cannot find anything else relating to pub ownership, or pricing, that would be negatively effected from EU directives or regulations.
If you disagree, or would like to add more details, please let me know.
You can suggest a reason for leaving the EU, or look at the other reasons.
